Notice Regarding the Shade of Un-dyed Items

At tezomeya, we offer a total of 13 colors: 12 regular colors dyed with natural dyes, plus an un-dyed natural cotton color.  Many of our customers love our un-dyed items for the pure beauty of organic cotton.

This notice is regarding a change in the shade of our un-dyed items. Please see the photo below.

It might be a little hard to tell from the photo, but the new version has a slightly whiter appearance than the current one. That said, since it hasn’t been bleached, it isn’t pure white.

You might be wondering, “Why does it be whiter if it hasn’t been bleached?”
The secret lies in the difference in the color of the cotton.

We make our T-shirts and tops using knitted fabrics made from organic cotton yarn. While we usually picture cotton as being pure white, there is also a variety naturally colord cotton, such as "brown cotton." The organic cotton yarn we have used for many years was actually a blend of white cotton with a tiny touch of brown cotton. Because of this, our un-dyed item had a subtle, warm, oatmeal-like undertone.

We have always used this specific blended organic cotton yarn because we were so fond of its unique color. Unfortunately, however, production of this blended yarn has been discontinued, so we have switched to an organic cotton yarn made from 100% natural-white cotton. Only the color of the yarn has changed; the yarn’s thickness and the fabric’s weave remain exactly the same as before.

Because of this change, the difference in our un-dyed item is now noticeable when compared to the current version (though you might only spot it when putting them side by side, since new one isn't "completely white"). Also, because the fabric is now a bit whiter, the "cotton specks"—the tiny bits of cotton stems and husks often found in organic cotton products—might stand out just a little more than before.

Please note that for dyed products, there is virtually no impact from changes in the yarn’s color.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We cannot say exactly when each item will switch to the new un-dyed shade. The transition will happen naturally as our stock of the original fabric and current un-dyed items runs out. Therefore, even for the exact same item, the timing will vary by size. For some items, the original un-dyed is already almost gone.

We are truly sorry to those who have deeply loved our original un-dyed shade. We hope you understand this change and will continue to support our craft for many years to come.
